About This Role
Healthcare interoperability is evolving rapidly as the industry adopts FHIR, TEFCA, and patient access APIs. Tile Health needs engineers who can navigate this complex landscape and build robust data exchange services that comply with federal mandates while delivering real clinical value. The Software Engineer for Interoperability will implement FHIR resource servers, patient matching algorithms, and consent management services that form the backbone of our data exchange capabilities.
What You'll Do
- Implement and maintain FHIR R4 resource servers that expose and consume clinical data according to US Core and Da Vinci implementation guides
- Build patient matching and identity resolution services that reconcile patient records across disparate health systems
- Develop consent management APIs that enforce patient data sharing preferences in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Create integration adapters for legacy HL7v2 interfaces, mapping between v2 segments and FHIR resources
- Participate in cross-organizational interoperability testing events (Connectathons) to validate conformance
- Document interoperability APIs and maintain Capability Statements for external developer consumption
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on API development
- Working knowledge of HL7 FHIR R4 including resource types, search parameters, and extensions
- Experience with HL7v2 message parsing and transformation (ADT, ORU, ORM)
- Proficiency in TypeScript or Java with experience building RESTful web services
- Understanding of OAuth 2.0 and SMART on FHIR authorization flows for clinical applications
- Familiarity with healthcare identifier systems (MRN, NPI, OID) and patient matching challenges
Nice to Have
- Experience with FHIR implementation guide authoring using FHIR Shorthand (FSH)
- Participation in HL7 working groups or Connectathon events
- Familiarity with TEFCA, Carequality, or CommonWell Health Alliance frameworks
