About This Role
Tile Health’s clinical data platform is the backbone of everything we build-powering analytics, AI models, and provider-facing dashboards. The Principal Data Architect will own the technical vision for how health data is ingested, modeled, stored, and served across the organization. This is a highly strategic role for a seasoned architect who thrives at the intersection of healthcare interoperability and modern data platform design.
What You'll Do
- Define and evolve Tile Health’s enterprise data architecture encompassing ingestion, transformation, storage, and serving layers
- Design a canonical clinical data model that accommodates EHR, claims, pharmacy, lab, and SDOH data from heterogeneous sources
- Evaluate and select core data platform technologies, balancing performance, cost, and operational complexity
- Establish architectural standards for data partitioning, indexing, and retention that meet both analytical and compliance requirements
- Mentor data engineers and analytics engineers on architectural best practices and design review processes
- Author and maintain data architecture decision records (ADRs) and technical roadmaps
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture or data platform engineering, with at least 3 years at a principal or staff level
- Expert-level knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift) and distributed data processing frameworks
- Deep familiarity with healthcare data standards including HL7 FHIR, OMOP CDM, and US Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI)
- Experience designing multi-tenant data architectures that enforce row-level security and tenant isolation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for articulating architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Experience leading data platform migrations (e.g., on-premises to cloud, monolith to lakehouse)
- Familiarity with real-time data mesh or data product paradigms
- Background in building data platforms for regulated industries beyond healthcare (finance, government)
- Active contributions to healthcare data standards organizations (HL7, CARIN Alliance, Da Vinci Project)
