About This Role
Tile Health’s patient portal is the front door for millions of patients to engage with their health data and care teams. The Frontend Engineer for the Patient Portal will develop responsive, accessible web experiences that handle sensitive health information with care. You will work at the intersection of consumer-grade UX and healthcare compliance, building interfaces that are intuitive for patients of all technical abilities and health literacy levels.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain the patient portal frontend using React and TypeScript with a focus on accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and performance
- Implement real-time messaging and notification features for patient-provider communication
- Build forms and workflows for appointment scheduling, prescription refill requests, and insurance document upload
- Integrate with backend FHIR APIs to render patient health records including lab results, medications, and care plans
- Optimize the application for mobile web browsers, ensuring a responsive experience across devices
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests using Jest and React Testing Library
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of frontend engineering experience with React and TypeScript in production applications
- Strong understanding of web accessibility standards and experience using screen readers and accessibility auditing tools
- Experience with state management solutions (React Query, Zustand, or Redux) and client-side routing
- Familiarity with REST API consumption patterns and optimistic UI update strategies
- Knowledge of responsive design techniques and CSS-in-JS or utility-first CSS frameworks (Tailwind)
- Experience writing frontend tests including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
Nice to Have
- Experience building patient-facing healthcare applications or health portals
- Familiarity with FHIR data models and how they map to patient-facing UI components
- Knowledge of i18n and l10n patterns for multilingual user interfaces
