Engineering Manager - Platform

About This Role

Tile Health’s platform team provides the building blocks-APIs, data access layers, authentication, and developer tooling-that product engineering teams rely on daily. The Engineering Manager for Platform will lead a team of 8-10 engineers, setting technical direction while fostering an inclusive, high-performing team culture. You will balance platform reliability with feature velocity, ensuring that internal consumers have the tools they need to ship clinical products quickly and safely.

What You'll Do

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of platform engineers through regular 1:1s, career development planning, and technical coaching
• Own the technical roadmap for platform services including API gateway, authentication, event bus, and developer SDK
• Partner with product engineering managers to understand platform consumer needs and prioritize shared infrastructure investments
• Drive engineering excellence through code review standards, architecture review processes, and incident retrospectives
• Manage sprint planning, capacity allocation, and delivery commitments for the platform team
• Recruit and hire senior platform engineers, building a diverse team with deep distributed systems expertise

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in an engineering management role
• Track record of leading platform or infrastructure teams that serve multiple product teams
• Strong technical background in distributed systems, API design, and cloud-native architectures
• Experience with organizational scaling challenges including team topology design and cross-team dependency management
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for both technical and executive audiences

Nice to Have

• Experience managing engineering teams in healthcare or other regulated industries
• Background in building developer experience tooling (internal CLIs, SDKs, documentation portals)
• Familiarity with platform-as-a-product thinking and internal developer platform (IDP) concepts
• Experience with event-driven architecture patterns using Kafka or similar technologies
